Mothers Out Front Dutchess is thrilled to share that our 2024 Trash the Incinerator Campaign has been a big success! Thank you for all your advocacy during this campaign.
On December 9, 2024, the Dutchess County Legislature unanimously approved an amendment to the 2025 County Budget allocating $75,000 to hire a Waste Reduction and Diversion expert and investigate alternative methods of waste management and disposal. This amendment represents a forward-thinking investment that can boost the local economy by generating hundreds of new jobs while also reducing the threat to public health and the environment when emissions from the incinerator are reduced.
The amendment was introduced by County Legislator Lisa Kaul (District 6) and was supported by Majority Leader Will Truitt.
Your efforts have made this possible.
On October 15th, Mothers Out Front Dutchess held a press conference and delivered signatures of nearly 900 Dutchess County residents on a petition to county legislators and County Executive Sue Serino to hire a zero waste management consultant to explore ways to reduce waste and divert waste from the incinerator. Check out our Instagram Post filmed at our Press Conference and during Public Comment to hear some very moving testimony.
The petition signatures, press conference, and many public comments made at monthly legislative meetings clearly made a difference. We are thrilled that the amendment received unanimous and bipartisan support.
Thank you!
