Mothers Out Front Applauds New Baselines Set at COP28 to phase Out Fossil Fuels
BOSTON (December 13, 2023) – While COP28, the largest global gathering of climate expertise, left many climate scientists, organizers, activists and citizens of this planet frustrated due to fossil fuel lobbying, the event did end with some hope for those working hard to make meaningful change. Mothers Out Front applauds the nearly 200 countries that approved a first-of-its-kind plan to ramp up renewable energy and transition away from coal, oil and gas.
The climate movement has known for decades that the most timely and crucial solution to slowing the climate crisis is the phasing out of fossil fuels. The leadership and action taken by organizers, from the brave folks fighting on a public stage at COP to the moms tirelessly sounding alarms and taking action in our towns, paved the way for this agreement.
“While this agreement may not be perfect, it’s hopeful that world leaders have finally acknowledged the truth: the era of fossil fuels must come to an end,” said Jenny Zimmer, Senior Director of Campaigns and Organizing at Mothers Out Front.
