Siting Reform Bill Hearing: Watch and Act Party
The hearing on the Siting Reform bill will be held online by the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee. We will join the Environmental Justice Legislative Table in a Watch & Act party, starting with a virtual rally at 11am. At 11:30 we will join together in a breakout room and provide you with clear steps to personalize a testimony template. Written testimony is the best way we can make an impact at the hearing when we can’t be “in the room where it happens.” When the live testimony is given on the bill, if you’re still on the call, you’ll be able to watch it with our allies.
Communities like East Boston, Chelsea, Weymouth and Springfield have been fighting the siting of polluting facilities in their neighborhoods for years, laying the groundwork for this legislation. If passed, this bill would require strong participation by community members, would count the existing levels of pollution, and integrate health and climate change into siting decisions made.
