Protect Public Health and Safety

Demand Governor Newsom and California Oil Regulators Protect Public Health and Safety With a 2,500-foot Setback

We need a 2500 foot setback.

Did you know that California is the only major oil-producing state in the country that doesn’t protect its residents with a minimum “setback” or buffer zone between oil and gas drilling and places where people live, study, play, and heal? Rather than protect Californians with science-based setbacks, our state allows toxic oil and gas drilling to take place right next door to homes, schools, playgrounds, and hospitals poisoning the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the soil our food grows in.

This is a dereliction of the primary responsibility of government: to protect the public.

We mothers and others say enough is enough! We want Governor Newsom and CalGEM (the agency responsible for regulating California’s oil and gas industry) to step up NOW and implement a 2500-foot health-and-safety buffer zone between drilling operations and sensitive sites to protect our children and our communities.

Take Action

Urge Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) to establish setback limits to protect public health and the environment from the impacts of oil and gas extraction.

Tell Governor Newsom and CalGEM that it’s time to protect the health and safety of our families—not oil industry interests!
